My long-standing deep passion for health ignited very early on in my life, as I frequently spent time in hospitals due to congenital eye disease. It led me to pursue medical school, where I decided to specialize in cancer treatment. As my career progressed, I couldn’t help but notice the limitations of standard western medicine, which focuses on symptom control through medication while accepting many side-effects along the way. Patients often asked me about the possible effects of nutrition and lifestyle on their healing process. As I couldn’t answer their questions based on my medical training, I sought further education in nutrition and functional medicine – which focuses on the root causes of disease.
My youngest son played a defining role in this journey, when he was born with severe congenital heart disease. He made me realize that I had to be in the best possible health to guide my family through the challenges we were facing. This sparked an immersive exploration into nutrition, movement, mindfulness & meditation – with WILDFIT as one of the most pivotal parts. Along the way, I was able to release chronic sinusitis, allergies & headaches as well as several medications I used to control these symptoms. I discovered an inexhaustible source of energy & focus within myself as the fog around my head lifted.
As a full-time working mom of three young children, I know what it’s like to juggle endless ‘to-do’ lists. Fuelling our bodies with nutritious meals is at the top of my priority list, as I have noticed that everything else flows from there. I love experimenting with new recipes, but eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated at all!
As a doctor I am passionate about supporting my patients/clients on their journey towards optimal health & well-being. My purpose is to guide & help you create a terrain in which disease cannot thrive. This includes both prevention, treatment and reversal of the most common chronic diseases.
I work as a stem cell transplant physician treating leukaemia patients at the Antwerp University Hospital. I am an ELMO certified Lifestyle Medicine practitioner and currently in the process of Functional Medicine Certification (IFM). I hold a certificate in Nutrition Sciences from the Stanford Centre for Health Education (Stanford University) as well as being a certified WILDFIT coach. The combination of these credentials allows me to serve my patients/clients in a very holistic and all-encompassing way.
I founded IASO Self Care to increase awareness around the importance of our nutrition & lifestyle in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease (including cancer). Did you know the name IASO stems from the Greek goddess of healing and recovery? Through my social media I offer practical tips and yummy recipes. I can further support you on your journey towards optimal health & well-being with:
– Personalized 1-on-1 nutrition and health coaching (adapted to your specific needs & goals)
– 90 Day WILDFIT coaching program: led as a team with Ginny Santos (also a certified WILDFIT coach)
I love working with cancer patients, their families and health care practitioners. I guide them in regaining control over their health trajectory. I look forward to connecting with you and finding out how I can support you in reaching your health goals!
